As
a general rule women and men are served better
when attending gender specific alcohol treatment
centers. Also, residential alcohol treatment is
superior to outpatient treatment. Unfortunately,
there are many more coed treatment centers available
to the public than women only facilities.
If a coed facility is the best opportunity to
receive treatment for alcohol dependence than
make certain that all residences are gender specific.
In addition, find a center that separates process
groups based on gender. Males and females have
a tendency to put on airs within coed groups.
Self esteem issues and boundry issues are pervasive
among addicts and alcoholics. Lastly, an unwanted
pregnancy that originated in a treatment center
can casuse only harm to all involved. Over 30%
of all alcohol abusers are women. The dangers
of alcohol abuse among women are much greater
than their male counterparts. As a whole women
tend to be more suceptible to the effects of alcohol
then men. The fact is that a woman needs to consume
substantially less alcohol to produce greater
effects. The most glaring problems specific to
women are;
